“Who knew all I needed was 90 minutes of DanceMT to feel happy again?”– Rachel Millyard
“Thank you Michael and Imagine Do, I think I may have been waiting my whole life for this night. ♥”– Jewell Westindorb
Valerie Foley, Creative Director of Doner in Detroit, MI says: "The energy and joy are contagious in this practice. Michael calls up the positive child in us that hasn’t played in a while. It’s movement that becomes meditation before you even realized it’s happened. Unscripted, expertly guided. This rollicking mind/body connection balances out quieter practices like yoga and meditation. Michael has created the ultimate stress-buster."
MEG PAUL, A FULL-TIME FACULTY MEMBER OF MAGGIE ALLESEE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND DANCE AT WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY. ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF THE WSU DANCE WORKSHOP AND PROGRAM DIRECTOR FOR THE COMPLEXIONS DETROIT SUMMER INTENSIVE SAYS;
“As a former principal dancer with the Joffrey Ballet and dance captain for Broadway’s Movin’ Out, dance has been my living and my life. Now that I am retired from my professional career on the stage, I have searched for an experience that will allow me to tap into the deeper parts of myself in a freer, more expressive way. I have enjoyed and benefited from many types of yoga and Pilates classes and through my connections with these communities, I found one of the most profound experiences to date; Dance Meditation Technique. Dance Meditation Technique is special. It has led me to the greater truth of who I am and has allowed me to find real compassion for myself and for all of Life. Through the creative mix of DMT’s teachings, catharsis, music and free style movement, I leave the class exploding with happiness, my emotional clutter exhausted and my greater truth loud and clear for me to hear. The facilitators are generous, caring people who create an environment that allows for practitioners to feel, move, express and release in the name of Love. Thank you, Michael, for creating a place and a space where we dance for the greater good of all.”
– Kathy Skubik, CEO of Irene’s Myomassology Institute in Southfield, MI says:“Dance Meditation Technique is an amazing way to let yourself feel free, uninhibited, joyful, and truly dance like no one is watching. In today’s society, dancing is typically paired with mood modifying substances. If ones wishes to go out and dance, the options are limited to a loud bar late at night, surrounded by intoxicated individuals. Typically the only time most of us dance is to bad music at weddings. Michael Peters provides a safe environment for personal development through physical movement in a nonjudgemental arena. A very unique opportunity. Michael conducted several DMT sessions at my massage school. He is so respectful of our space, and the dancers truly appreciated the opportunity. Everyone loved the experience! The best way to understand DMT is to experience it. Go dance!”
-Carey Peters & Stacey Morgenstern, Co-Founders of Health Coach Institute says: "My school brought Dance Meditation and Michael Peters in to teach a group of our students and help them bust through fears, discover strengths they didn’t know they had, and gel together as a community on a whole new level. Our students LOVED Dance MT and our staff loved it, too! We highly recommend bringing Dance MT into your organization, your studio or wherever it is that you have groups of people who are ready for the best mind, body, spirit workout of their lives."
Sarah Edwards, Former Studio Manager of Yoga Shelter in West Bloomfield, MI Michael Patrick Peters- a big personality with so much passion and heart and a wonderful presence in the room really helps people let down their walls and connect to something permanent and soulful. I was amazed at how easily students were able to break free from their attachments and dive into exploring something outside of themselves in a safe and secure environment.
The opportunity to bring DMT to our studio also brought with it new students into our space who would not have normally visited and so allowed us to connect to a diverse and larger community outside our typical one. I look forward to experiencing DMT again in the future and hope that others will continue to have the opportunity to explore this creative and exciting program!”
Christy Manown,Studio Manager of Yoga Shelter in Grosse Pointe, MI says: “DMT – Dance Meditation Technique is a way to explore and let go of built up tension and emotions. My personal experience is that it made me feel like I was glowing from the inside out! Amazing! Since our experience at the Grosse Pointe Studio, I have made it a priority to attend as many DMT workshop events that I can.
One of our clients, who have attended many healing arts workshops, expressed that this was the most healing and powerful experience she has ever had! Wow! As a yoga studio manager this experience brought tears to my eyes as I felt my students around me opening up, exploring, and “Just Glowing”. At that moment I knew that this was the right decision to bring DMT into our studio/home! It was magical!
I really appreciated Michael’s attention to detail in the explanation of DMT before the practice began. This made people feel nurtured, loved, supported and safe! The playlist enhanced our experience beyond words. Professionally, meeting with Michael was an instant connection. We met in person one time to see if DMT would be a right fit for our yoga community. From there, Michael helped with the promotion and setting up of our first DMP Event. Michael was quick in responding to my emails and questions, a pleasure to work with. After the success of our event, two more were immediately scheduled at our other Yoga Shelter studios and were a huge success! We have another on the books for April, in which our community is looking forward to.”
“Imagine Do, creator Michael Peters; DJ Baksheesh. This is the kind of man who inspires greatness. I have had the honor of working with Michael in several yoga workshops where he brings his integrity toward healing and the ancient practice of meditation and yoga. The Dance Meditation Technique Workshop, which he brought to our traditional yoga community, was a beautiful class where students were able to release and meditate. His introduction was thorough and I felt very comfortable with the way he led the class and connected with each individual student. Michael’s unique dmt was a joy to have at Updog Yoga. We paired it with yin and it made for an amazing night. The feedback from students was extremely positive with numerous break throughs expressed. The energy this teacher brings is high and loving. We, at Updog, are honored to have had dmt grace our studio and look forward to more of the kind.”– Yvonne Clark, Yoga Teacher at UpDog Yoga in Rochester, MI
“I was so moved by my experience that I knew I had to share this experience with as many people as I know. I immediately booked Michael for a series of workshops at the studio. Michael is truly an amazing person. The Dance Meditation Technique workshops have been a way for me to connect with myself and many family and friends that have passed on. It allowed me to release negative energy and stress and to really focus on the many positive events of my life. I would recommend this workshop to everyone I know. I look forward to having many more meditations at One Spirit Dance and Fitness.”– Kelly Hassan, owner of One Spirit Dance and Fitness in Pinckney, MI
“Wow! This is such a blessing. Many of you know that we have been “calling in” DANCE to our space. Our prayer has been heard and DANCE is coming to us in epic ways! Michael Patrick Peters is a beautiful human. The experience and healing that can result from his Dance Meditation Technique are known to make even the most timid of motion MOVE with passion and soul. If you like to dance- YOU WILL LOVE THIS. If you’re terrified of dance- I’d put money on something miraculous occurring with this experience. I’ve practiced DMT…it moves what is stuck. It dissolves fear. It untangles the knots. It FREES the soul and OUR SOULS KNOW HOW TO DANCE.”– Carrie Lune Collins, owner of Bhakti Yoga of Brooklyn, MI
“Dance Meditation Technique IS an amazing experience.” – Srikalogy.com
“My intention for the DMT Event was to let go. I have been eaten by the “Black Hole” for so long. Alone in my car before this event, I couldn’t even yell. Like it scared me or something. I was unable to even laugh. There is something beautiful in silence, but there is something equally as beautiful and empowering to scream, shout, and let all hell break loose from your mouth in the form of war cries and howls!! smile emoticon It’s such a beautiful release. I had an epiphany while I was dancing.. Not caring feels damn good. That’s why people often get drunk: they want to release but they haven’t found their voice and can’t let go without being intoxicated. If everyone could dance and sing with freedom we wouldn’t drink. We wouldn’t hurt our bodies to feel happy. I plan to continue to dance to express myself with no reservations and to fill myself with starlight!! grin emoticon Thank you Michael for sharing this art with me!”– Julie Renea Hawthorne
“Thank you so much for having the DMT event last night! I released some big things and I felt so light that it seemed like I was walking on air! Everything about it was awesome!”-Alecia Fredenthal

Thank you so much, Dance Meditation Technique. I wanted to let you know I used to be a full time dancer at a studio from the time from when I was 3 just until just a few months ago…So I’ve taken thousands upon thousands of dance classes, and last night was by far the best hour and 18 of minutes of dancing I have ever experienced. Thank you, thank you! ♥ ♥”– Hannah Goike
“Loved every moment of the Dance Meditation Technique. My wild came jumping out and released past energy. Now even more close to being my authentic self. Thank you for providing a safe space! -Camellia Lynn Noble
“Dance Meditation Technique enriches every aspect of my being – physical agility and endurance, emotional release and rebirth, fresh perspectives in my imagination and awareness, and a profound connection to Divine Love. It teaches me to surrender, to trust, and awaken parts on the frontier of myself to love into being. I always feel safe and accepted with the community that gathers through this practice, and no longer have any fear to allow creative movement in everyday situations. I know the practice has had deep effects on my being that I don’t even know, because it will constantly surprise me in moments outside the practice, to liberate me from stagnant energy.”– Michael Mallon
“It is amazing event of healing, connection, and community. I love it.” – Barbra White www.acceptedasiam.com
“I can hardly find the words to express my gratitude and the joy and abundance I feel after experiencing your dance meditation class on Friday and Saturday. I am truly, deeply moved on a soul level. It felt like a coming home to me. I have always dreamed that something like this would exist and I thank you so much for making it a reality. The moment the music started I was overcoming with a feeling of “this is IT, this is what my spirit has been waiting for.”– Jessica Yarborough
“DMT has returned to me a very special piece of my heart and soul. Movement and dance have always been a large part of my life but sadly for many years I let other things take priority. It was on a restless night that I found the information that lead me to the 11-11-11 DMT event and since attending that evening I have reconnected with dance and also found a greater depth of self discovery, love and release. Years ago while studying dance we used to say “dance it out.” It didn’t matter if you were having a rough day, extremely happy, frustrated, sad, etc. When you come you dance you dance it out – hold nothing back, pouring all emotions into the dance and in the end you feel lighter and connected. Having the supported space and opportunity to dance in this way is extremely important and wonderful for me and why I am grateful for DMT.”– Jenny Convery
“I have to say, something in me changed at the Dance Meditation Technique last night!!!!! Flyer says drop 100 pounds of emotional weight, I felt like I lost that and more!!! Oh it was beautiful, I wish there was a DMT every week!! Thank you Imagine Do! -Trinity Loretta
“Thank you to the organizers, the musicians, the artists, the performers, and EVERYONE (JAI!) who helped create such a sacred space. It was healing, uplifting, humbling, and centering. I will definitely go again. Namaste.”-Leslie Curate Rzeznik
“That big beautiful barn, full of Starlight!
I have to say I’d never had an experience like this before. Yeah, I’d been out dancing in the clubs with friends, but that is an experience that is full of judgment, drama, and tension among other things. The DMT experience let go of all of that. It was so freeing. You got to let go of judgment, drama, and tension - on many levels - emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Letting loose, dancing your fool head off, and shouting to release your aggressions.
The demonstrative experiment of black hole energy VS starlight energy at the beginning was profound. And once we identified the difference, got comfortable with each other and the beat dropped, it was ON! 90 minutes of pure release - energetic bliss!
Thank you for your kind thoughts and words of wisdom, for holding the space and sharing this experience with others - I would more could experience it! And that joyous laugh! Infectious!
Also, from my post on Facebook the day after the event, I’ve had so many people ask me about my experience. Once I explain it to them then they ask, “when is the next one? I must do this!” Helping to spread that starlight!
Aho! Heya! You are doing ti right! May we all be the light!”-Tonya Wozny
“Good Morning! Just wanted to pass along… I’ve already gotten a few comments from the ladies here at the yoga studio this morning about how lighthearted I look/feel this morning!! Your practices really work wonders for release. Infinite love and appreciation to the whole Dance Meditation Technique family!”– Katie Jane
“I was at your DanceMT event in Brooklyn on Saturday as part of Carrie’s tribe and wanted to share some thought about it with you.
The experience was all I anticipated and more. It freed me in a way that I was not expecting and took me into an unexpected place/trance. During most of it I had a loop going through my head of “You are strong, you are powerful, you are beautiful and you are graceful.” These are not words that immediately come to mind for myself. Your laughter was infectious and I could not help by laugh along with you. Thank you for sharing your joy with us.
PS: Everyone I saw afterwards asked me what I was on and all I could say was “LIFE!!!” but if you had asked me to drink the Juice/Kool aid I would have.”– Jen Phen
“Michael, I’m currently pursuing a path in yoga through Carrie Collins’ BTribe (Bhakti Yoga Brooklyn, MI) teacher training and attended your DMT this past Saturday night. I wanted to take the time to tell you about my experience and what a beautiful soul you are! I was very iffy about the whole DMT experience; one because I don’t dance and two because I was afraid to let myself be me; to just let go. I always loved to dance as a child but never thought I was good enough the older I got. The night of the DMT, I really felt my inner child break free. the smiles and laughter that I felt take over my body were amazing. You made a comfortable environment for people to move with the music and not care what the heck anyone thought of them. Each song you played made me dance a different style that I didn’t even know I was even capable of doing. Thank you for this great experience and allowing everyone to feel beautiful for the night! Jay!!!”– Erica Michelle
“I have never been to a dance conducted so seamlessly. Michael puts all of his effort into each and every detail of the meditations from the food to the music to the venue and it is clear that he has found a calling in putting these meditations together. He is interested in what everyone has to say about their experience and always looking to find ways to make it a better event. The enthusiasm and joy which is the driving force behind these meditations comes from his own experience with their transformative and healing power which he wants to share with others. He wants, above all, to create a community and to keep the experience centered around people discovering themselves and through that each other.” – Avni Mehta
“Hi Michael! I hope this message finds you well. I met you awhile back at one of your DanceMT events at the Yoga Shelter. I wanted to thank you again for such an amazing experience. I had never done DanceMT before, and I could not have asked for a better introduction to the practice. It really moved me as it allowed me to put my guard down and truly let go. In a world that can feel at times so full of social molding & judgement, DanceMT was a breathe of fresh air. I felt an overwhelming sense of inward and outward connectedness with myself and with others through your practice of self-expression. So I thank you for exposing me to your passion. I believe it’s important to let others know of their impact, as it provides the encouragement for them to keep doing what makes them feel so alive.”– Brooke Scott
“DMT is such a wonderful gift! It opens my heart and fills me with love from head to toe. Each DMP event blesses me in different ways, but most often I am left with feelings of deep peace, joy, gratitude, devotion, and inspired creativity. I am especially grateful for the safe space that is created and the opportunity to dance and meditate within a beautiful community of like-hearted people. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”– Erin Stohl
“Attended my first meditation dance last night. It is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for the opportunity to explore the inner connection through the body in movement. I have had a number of musculoskeletal issues in recent years and dancing/moving in deep connection and communication of spirit in form brought a deep uncoiling in tight places. I feel so good today and slept like a baby.”– Leslie Tuchman
No experience required, only the bravery to try something new.
You enter, sign in, find your spot, lay down and relax. When we begin I (or one of my facilitators) walks the group step by step through the warm up/orientation and then we launch into the practice. There is an integration period, rest and a brief sitting meditation.
This is a profound cardio activity. We have had students tell us their fitbit’s registered some 13,000+ steps in a single playlist. Other students move more slowly. There is no pace you must keep.
DMT’s are no camera, no video zones. We do not welcome or allow photographs or videos of any of our practice in order to respect our students privacy.
Bring your yoga mat and or a blanket.
Dress in comfy layers.

AWESOMENESS: The main reason is that DMT is an incredibly enjoyable natural high that helps you release tension, blush hard and feel vibrantly alive, yet settled.
THE WORLDS MOST FUN CARDIO: I am planting the flag in the proverbial air that DMT is the worlds most fun cardio. We have ‘fitbit’ wearers who have told me they have clocked 13,000 steps and that it felt like 15 minutes.
COMFORT: DMT is most well known for making the generally uncomfortable experience of moving with passion something incredibly easy and comfortable.
CONFIDENCE: DMT has an unusual ability to very quickly help people enter their own flow state and not just enter it, but regularly enter it and ever more deeply which results in, at the minimum, you discovering how seriously bad ass of a dancer you actually are.
If you love dancing or are terrified of it, this is for you.
SIMPLE: DMT is also well known for making the experience of natural meditation very accessible and de-mystified. Our meditative focus is to wish one another strength and bravery in regaining the ability to move and make sound with passion, to feel supremely alive and to imagine our movement and sound is uplifting energy for ourselves and others.
DMT is an ecstatic cardio workout combining physical and mental disciplines to help you lose 100lbs of emotional weight in 90 minutes.
I have had students clock themselves at near 13,000 steps (some 6 miles) in one 60 minute playlist via their fit bits and comment ‘it felt like 15 minutes.’
The roots of this practice go back to my first two teachers, Anand Safi and Gabriel Chin. Gabriel was, by far, the most influential Thai Chi and Chi Gong teacher in Michigan having taught thousands for free over the course of 4 + decades and being the first chi gong practitioner allowed in open heart surgery at U of M Hospital and Safi was one of his most senior students and my primary instructor. Other very important teachers in my life have been Master of Tibetan Buddhism Kyabje Gelek Rimpoche, Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Dr. Aura Glaser to name some key ones. Another very important influence has been my Rabbi, Jason Gold.
Though many principles that I came to understand through studying with various mind/body teachers are employed at DMT, I would not say it is a spiritual practice so much as a Life Skill Practice. We are not just showing you how you can discover your own unique way of moving, we are helping you discover your minds ability to generate supportive energy for yourself and others.
Dance, has been, is and will be one of the fastest routes for humans to experience joy, release, beauty and a sense of being connected to ourselves and others.
Most of us know this and give the idea lip service, while not making a point to dance regularly, but DMT actually quickly delivers the visceral experience of it and we have become most well known for delivering that experience from the range of people who think they have no ability to dance all the way to professional dancers.
DanceMT has been offered monthly and or weekly throughout Michigan consistently for the past 6 years producing the largest attendances, for the longest period of time for a traveling workshop ever in the midwest and perhaps beyond.
